Chirag Balyan is the Coordinator, Centre for Arbitration & Research (CAR) and Assistant Professor of Law at Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai. He teaches courses on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), International Arbitration and Mediation at the University. He is also the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Review of International Arbitration. At University he has been instrumental in setting up ADR Society, Moot Court Society, Centre for Arbitration and Research and Centre for Mediation and Research.

He is actively involved in the training of judges, lawyers, police officers, prosecutors, industry professionals and law students on various legal issues including Arbitration, Mediation, Negotiation and Advocacy Skills. He is pursuing his doctorate from the Symbiosis Law School, Symbiosis International University, Pune. Earlier, he has served as law clerk cum research assistant to the Chief Justice of India and other judges of the Supreme Court of India. DARIUS KHAMBATA

Darius J. Khambata, Senior Counsel, practises before the Supreme Court of India, the Bombay High Court and other High Courts and Tribunals across India. He has held two distinguished public law offices: of the Advocate General for Maharashtra and of the Additional Solicitor General of India. Mr Khambata has a large and varied practice and has appeared in several important constitutional, commercial, securities and administrative law matters and in significant domestic and international commercial arbitrations. Mr. Khambata was previously a member of the SEBI Committee, which in 2014-15 framed and recommended substantial amendments to the Arbitration & Conciliation Act, 1996.

He has been Vice-President of the London Court of International Arbitration and is a member of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre's Court. He is also a member of One Essex Court, a leading set of commercial chambers in the UK, apart from having his own chambers in Mumbai. In the past, amongst countless other matters, he has been a part of the team representing ANZ Grindlays Bank in an arbitration against National Housing Bank, the then largest commercial arbitration in India.

He has done his LLB from Government Law College, Mumbai, and LLM from Harvard Law School. He has been awarded with numerous accolades including the 'Arya Chanakya Puraskar' in Law (2014), 'Senior Counsel of the Year' by Legal Era (2017), and 'Living Legend of Law' by the Bar Association of India (2019). He is also a Trustee of the M.C. Chagla Memorial Trust and the H.M. Seervai Memorial Trust.

FORMER JUSTICE K.J. THAKER

Dr. Justice Kaushal Jayendra Thaker had joined the Bar in 1987 and started his practice with late Shri N.J. Mehta. Later on, he joined the office of Shri K.S. Nanavati. His diverse range of practice in the Gujarat High Court includes in labour, service, constitutional, civil and criminal matters. In February 1997, he was directly appointed as District Judge and worked as such at various such places.

He was appointed as Additional Judge of the High Court of Gujarat on May 4, 2013. Subsequently, he was transferred to Allahabad High Court where he took oath as Additional Judge on Apr 11, 2016. He became a Permanent Judge at Allahabad High Court on Mar 14, 2018.

He had graduated in Law from L.A. Shah Law College in Ahmedabad and stood first in Gujarat University. He passed LL.M. (Commercial Group) and was also awarded the G.C Scholarship for the same. He was awarded Ph.D. in Environment Law from Gujarat University under the able guidance of Dr. S.S. Singhavi. He has attended SARRC Conference on Environmental sustainability at Hyderabad and International Conference on Judicial Reforms at Chandigarh. He has also been a part-time lecturer at L.A. Shah Law College and M.N. Shah Law College in Ahmedabad.
