Alain Farhad is a Partner in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice and he is the head of the Dispute Resolution practice in the United Arab Emirates. He has experience in resolving disputes relating to many different business sectors, with a focus on the oil and gas, infrastructure, trading and real estate industries. He has also represented a number of governments, as well as state-owned entities in commercial or investment treaty disputes. Alain has been based in Dubai since January 2011.
Prior to relocating to the Middle East, he practised International Arbitration in Paris. He is a French qualified Avocat à la Cour and a member of the New York Bar. He holds law degrees from Paris Sorbonne University and Cornell Law School. Alain has been appointed to serve as a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR. Andrew Mitchell is a Professor at the Faculty of Law, Monash University, and a member of the Indicative List of Panelists to hear WTO disputes. He has previously practised law with Allens Arthur Robinson (now Allens Linklaters) and consults for States, international organisations and the private sector. Andrew has taught law in Australia, Canada, Indonesia, Singapore, and the US and is the recipient of five major grants from the Australian Research Council (including a Future Fellowship) and the Australian National Preventive Health Agency.
He has published over 140 academic books and journal articles and is a Series Editor of the Oxford University Press International Economic Law Series. Rishab is a specialist in international arbitration, commercial litigation and public international law. He is qualified to practice in the UK, India and US.
Before joining Twenty Essex, he was a partner at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas where he led the firm’s arbitration practice in Mumbai. Prior to that, Rishab spent several years at Allen & Overy in London and Debevoise & Plimpton in New York.
Rishab regularly represents clients in commercial and investor-state arbitrations brought under the auspices of a variety of institutional rules. Dr. Sara Hourani is an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) at the School of Law, Middlesex University London. Sara received an LLB degree from Grenoble II University (France), an LLM in International Trade Law and a PhD in Law from the University of Essex (UK). Sara was granted the prestigious UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) PhD scholarship to pursue her doctoral studies and has been the recipient of different grants and awards to carry out her research. She was also a John W Kluge Scholar at the Library of Congress in Washington DC which was funded by the AHRC to carry out research in international commercial law.
Sara's research interests are in the areas of international arbitration and international commercial law. More recently, Sara's work has been focusing on the use of new technologies in online dispute resolution and arbitration. This work has been presented in various fora such as Yale Law School, the UNCITRAL, the International Chamber of Commerce, the Blockchain Technology Conference 2019, the 2018 and 2019 ODR Forums and the Paris Chamber of International Arbitration (CAIP). Magdalena Łągiewska is an Assistant Professor at the University of Gdańsk (Department of Public International Law), a Research Associate in the “China, Law and Development” project at the University of Oxford and a Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Gdańsk. She received a PhD in Law from the University of Gdańsk in 2017 and the second PhD in Law from the East China University of Political Science and Law in Shanghai in 2020 (PhD thesis titled “The Effectiveness of the Arbitration Agreement under Chinese and Polish Law: A Comparative Study” written in Chinese). In addition to her legal education, she completed a master's degree in international economic relations with a specialization in international finance and banking (University of Gdańsk).
She was granted a scholarship by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government to take part in Shanghai Summer School 2015 (Belt and Road Countries Project) organized by the Shanghai International Studies University and other scholarship from the China Youth University for Political Sciences in Beijing. She gained practical experience in international commercial arbitration through her internship at the Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (SHIAC).
